Bryce at this point has 5, count them, 5 pairs of shades. We have Spiderman sunglasses, Ninja Turtle sunglasses, Power Ranger sunglasses, a plain red pair and a plain black pair. He has probably had about a dozen or more pairs in his short lifetime. Some of them have come into the hands of little cousins and been broken, some lost, some are now too small. Bryce feels like he cannot walk out the door without his sunglasses on.
As a young baby, as soon as we would walk out into the sun, he would sneeze... repeatedly. The sun has always seemed to bother his eyes more than some people, so at a young age I began putting sunglasses on him. So now that he is older, it is something that has become very important to him. When I say we need to go somewhere, his first response is "Ok, let me get my sunglasses." Sometimes he is so into wearing them that I have to remind him to take them off once we get inside somewhere or he will even wear them once it gets dark.
Bryce has no clue about the style or coolness of it, but that is what it has become to his classmates. Bryce has worn them everyday to his pre-school and then always has to get them from his backpack before going out onto the playground. There was never another kid in his class that wears sunglasses, but lately I have seen a handful of them sporting them as they come to school. More than one mother has told me that their child announced that they needed to get sunglasses to wear to school like Bryce. I told the mothers it wasn't that Bryce is trying to start a trend, he doesn't think anything more of it than protecting his eyes from that bright sun that makes him sneeze.
Wherever we go Bryce gets comments about his cool shades. He then feels that he must take them off and show and announce to the person whether they are Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, etc. and he must tell them that they can get some too at the Wal-Mart Supercenter and there is a McDonalds there too.
Last night, Steve and I took the boys and stopped at Pizza Hut to pick up a pizza and then went to the Jensen Beach park where there were jumping fountains. As Steve and I ate and Bryce and Connor would run back and forth getting a bite here and there, the boys played in the fountains. A few other kids soon came and joined them and Bryce would go up to each one like he knew them for a lifetime and would start talking their ear off. Some would point at his shades and say something and he would take them off and show them which one's they were. He is such a little social bug, it is quite amusing to watch. He NEVER meets a stranger. After watching him for a few minutes, Steve said sarcastically, "you know it will really be nice when Bryce come's out of his shell a little bit and stops being so shy."
